Zaki Cordillo

A playwright and key figure in the Puppet Theatre, Zaki Cordillo was arrested with his son in Damascus on August 11, 2012. He was reportedly detained for his writings on Syria and his outspoken opposition to atrocities committed by all sides of the conflict. His work, which focused on social issues, made him a target. Like many intellectuals and writers who disappeared in 2012, Cordillo’s fate remains unknown, despite the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, with no confirmed updates on his whereabouts.
